I would like to share a little story of WC with everyone. I had been employed several years at a mojor retailer. I really liked my job and made a decent living. One Sat. morning in the process of selling , my customer and i walked to the back of the store to check some stock. It was Super Sat. we had opened early. All of a sudden before I knew what happen I slipped on the floor, I landed on my elbow, I knew when it crushed into the floor I had broken it. I said to the customr Oh God I Broke my arm I should have said I crushed my arm. He ran to get help. Everyone standing around I couldn't move it hurt soooooooo bad. I managed to slide myself over where I could get some back support. The Parameds came the first thing one of them said was look at that floor its looks ice. I held my arm close to my body trying not to cry. They put me on strecker and rolled me out to the amulance. As we were rolling past the office the manager came out and asked me if I had insurance. I said yes take me to Kaiser in Riverside I guess. As we traveled down the freeway I was given 2 shots of morhine. Yes my elbow was broken in fact they said the ratial head was crushed and they would remove that , The pain was terrible I guess all your nerves are located there. I was sent home in a sling brace with pain pills, and had surg. five days later. I was devasted I was a single mother of 3 my house payment my bills Sat. was a good day to make money. Operated on no one from work even called to see how I was doing I didn't have anyone to help me, as I am from another state and my parents are deceased. I started getting my workers comp the max. but it still wasn't enough. Still no called to inquired how I was except one person and she said the manager was asking everyone did you see her fall like I guess he thought I came to work that way. I was set up for follow up with Kaiser. I was very scared and lonely we ate frozen dinners and I said to my kids you know I would rather lose a leg then an arm. It had to be elavated most of the day so there I sat on the love seat day after day watch tv. could even read the newspaper cause I couldn't hold it. I had not missed a day of work in years. Then I saw an adverisment for wc att. on tv decided to call them they told to stop going to Kasier and referred me to board cert op sur. I really can't remember what order it went in but after the cast was removed I was sent to another dr. I went in there and he said I think you need more sur. I said oh no I don't I'm not going through that again, he looked kind of mad at me and said okay goodbye you won't need another appointment. Went home and called the lawyer about what dr. should I go to now could you find one closer to my home or maybe I should go back to kasier he said no kasier doesn't do a good job. Sent me to another dr. that was okay with that and pt was closer to home. Then on follow up appointments the dr. would not release me back to work. Every time I went in there I asked when they would say not yet. I was injuried in the first part of Aug. I think this was in the last part of Oct. every month same thing then one appointment in Dec. I said I have to get back to work In mid Jan I returned to work. I was so glad to get my life back. Was not treated good upon return but I have never been one to care what others think of me to thind own self be true, my mother use to say. I could tell they all thought I was just after money but as you can see I was not. Let them think what the may.
I received med. 22,000 when I got the lump sum cause I didn't want the payments every other week there was 7,ooo left . That was jan 2002. Then in Sept. 2003 I started to experience back pain from standing 8 hours a day on hard floor. I had moved Appliances all the time I worked there one time in 98 filed a incident report cause I hurt my back the men I worked with used to watch us move things every Sun I was scuduled to set adverisment and all refridgators had to be moved to different places. I did this for years it was requiried if that ad. was not just right you would be in trouble and nobody wanted to be fired it paid good money. In Sept. 2003 I could not work it would kill me when I walk to my car I could barely make it . I didn't think I could work anymore didn't know what to do, went on state disabily, as before my goal was to go back to work, asked for light duty they said didn't have anything so since the dr. said I could stand 5min. then sit a hour i could not do may regular job . So I stayed on state disabiliy because they didn't have anything no office work. I knew the state d was going to run out, after about 3months the Dr. said I could stand 30 min, take a break and work part time and so I called them and told them what restritions I had I thought maybe they would give another job since it would be hard for me to sell and it is very compeitive. when I asked where I would be working they said your regular job. I said oh that sounds like I'm being set up to fail. The HR lady said we were going to get you a chair but decided not to. Went back the first day I was unable to take a break per dr orders because I was the only one in my department someone called in. I was in so much pain after 4 hours went back and worked for about a month hurting and taking pain pills. went back on state disability it ran out then I knew I could no longer do that job. and filed workers comp. it was denied did not have any income at all no money sons helped me I sold my home the only thing I ever had and lived on proceeds. WC open received a check from insurance company in may for 1,800 out of blue said payment toward pd then got a letter for a msc called lawyer he didn't know why I got check. Any way will see what happens I just got my real estate lin. and I hope I can get my life back. sorry so long.
