I searched the "General Public Search for Information" to get the ADJ number so that I can file a lien. It found the patient and I recorded the ADJ number. I when to file lien and send the doc's to all parties, but I don't know what board to send the lien too! So I used the Workers Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB) legacy case number lookup tool to get the legacy number and it returned "No results Found" because there is no Legacy number.

So how do I know where to mail my lien?

I called the state and they gave me a hard time telling me they cannot give out this information. BS!! I talked with a supervisor and she said they are starting to get these types of calls and knows there is a hold in the system. Even some EDEX results do not give the location or even the correct location. Calling an adjuster to get this info is pretty hard. Calling the AA or DA is very time consuming.

Hi Will,

Hmmm. In a perfect world, one would think that you could drop off your EAMS compliant lien at any district office of the WCAB using the correct ADJ number, and that regardless of which board scanned it into the EAMS system, it would be attached to that particular case by the ADJ number. Your newly filed lien would become a part of the electronic case file viewable by whichever WCJ eventually hears the case at whatever venue.

Along that line of thought, in practice, one could file a lien at say LAO, even though the case-in-chief is venued in OAK.

In this perfect world, once the lien with itemization and POS is scanned, it is shredded and is now viewable only through EAMS --- negating the need for the WCAB to have a paper copy after the lien was scanned.

Then, in this perfect world, once the IW, AA, or DA, files a DOR, the lien claimant should receive either paper or electronic notification of the date, time, and place of the upcoming hearing --- along with the name of the WCJ.

Of course, we do not live in a perfect world --- so I will not hold my breath on this perfect outcome.

On a related note, over the summer I had my staff mailing out DORs willy-nilly, so that we can bring our CA comp business to a close quickly by block setting. Then, in October, we started using those published EAMS forms. As can be expected, November brought about a change in forms, and as of Wednesday, 12/17/08, the WCAB will only be accepting the November version of DORs, cover sheets, and separator pages.

Well, as of Wednesday 12/17/08, I will need to have my staff create brand new DORs, cover sheets, and separator pages from the November updated forms, to bring to calendar for block setting. The same goes for our liens to be filed with the WCAB on or after Wednesday 12/17/08.

Use WorkCompCentral EDEX - enter the ADJ case number as inquiry - results returned will provide venue using the 3 letter code.
